Isaac tried the $20 Trick at Golden Nugget and got a nice upgrade from the Carson Tower to the Rush Tower.

“I walked up to the first clerk available, who was a man in his 30’s. While checking in, I gave him a $20 sandwiched and asked if there was an available upgrade. He immediately found us a bigger room in the newer tower with a Strip view. I’m so happy I found this site before our trip.”

Here’s a twist, Latiesha used the $20 Trick at Venetian and got a better room in the Palazzo. The $20 tip got her a nice upgrade that saved her a couple of hundred dollars.

“I went to Vegas the week of April 15th through 18th. I booked to stay at The Venetian. Their standard rooms are pretty much all the same. I approached the front desk to check in, had middle age clerk, still young and vibrant. I slipped him my cards with the twenty. He looked down, and I asked about the upgrades. He said thank you and proceeded to put me in a newer renovated room with brighter colors, a larger living room, and electric curtains. It was beautiful. In comparison to my other friend’s room, mine was the spot. I called it Club 37. We were on the 37th floor instead of the 5th, and the views were amazing.”

Chris used the $20 Trick at Paris Las Vegas and got a massive discount on a long 10-day stay. While not a free upgrade, Chris got a great room for a great price.

“When I arrived, they encouraged using the self-check-in. I simply asked to work with a clerk. I handed over the sandwich and asked for a complimentary room upgrade. It took her a few minutes on the phone, but for $100 more, they stuck me in the Imperial Suite with a gorgeous view. I am staying in Vegas for 10 days, so that’s $10 more per day for roughly 600 more square feet. Well worth it.”

Mike used the $20 Trick at Caesars Palace and got a pretty size-able upgrade, check it out:

“I had booked an Augustus Strip View Room, asked for nonsmoking, high floor, and strip view. I had $20 in my hand. I was given a couple of options and chose Augustus Petite Suite, a corner room about 100 square feet larger, but most of it is the entryway. It was the southwest corner on floor 10 or 11 but still had a pretty good fountain view. That was a Saturday check-in and platinum line.”

Chris got a small upgrade with the $20 Trick right after Caesars Palace re-opened after the COVID-19 shutdown.

“I checked in last night at 10:45 pm. The registration agent was friendly after getting a camera to scan our body temperature. I told him I heard they weren’t taking cash anymore but had my ID, card, and $20 on the desk (non-sandwich), and he just said, ‘great,’ leave everything there so I can see it and verify without touching. Moments later, I had my choice of Palace Studio or the Augustus with the view. No added cost to me beyond the $20.”

Kyle shares a $40 Trick story from Caesars Palace that is super cool. While he didn’t get a free room upgrade, he did receive some great perks that made the $40 worth it.

“My room at Caesars Palace was already comped, but we arrived from New York City super early, and she waived early check-in and resort fees and minibar purchases. She was very nice and seemed to enjoy helping us save money.”

This goes to show that while the hotel may not upgrade your room, greasing the front desk staff’s palms with cash can go a long way.

Beth has an interesting story of using the $50 Trick at Bally’s. Beth had three rooms on one booking, so instead of $20, she tried $50. Ultimately, a holiday weekend, length of stay, and quantity of rooms may have led to the final result.

“I checked in for four days on May 28th, celebrating a birthday. We had booked three rooms, so I sandwiched a $50. The clerk was very nice. She told me that she would be happy to check on an upgrade. She said that she could upgrade two rooms but not three. She took the $50, completed the check-in, and off we went to our rooms. Long story short, we all got the same kind of room, and it was the same as the room we booked, two queens, with a view of the high roller (not strip view). It was Memorial Day weekend, and our stay was for four nights.”

Manu got a modest upgrade for free with the $20 Trick at Bally’s. He got a view of The Strip and the Bellagio Fountains from a friendly front desk agent at Bally’s.

“The clerk took my ID and credit card; as soon as she felt the $20 tip, she immediately put the $20 back in my hand and said, ‘Let me see what I can find available.’ She checked, and suites were not available, but she typed away and found at least something. Boom! It went from having a normal low floor room with no view to a high floor Jubilee Room with a strip view of the Bellagio Fountain. In the end, I put the $20 back on the counter, and she asked, ‘Is this for me?’ I said, ‘yes,’ and thanked her and went on my way. Worth it.”

Estavane used the $20 Trick at Bally’s to get an incredible suite upgrade. From the standard Jubilee Room to a Jubilee Grand Suite that saved Estavane over $800! WOW! That’s an incredible upgrade.

“We checked in around 3:00 pm on a Wednesday, and the line wasn’t long at all. I handed him the sandwich, and the guy squeals, ‘Oh, what do we have here?’ I was upfront with him and told him that I ‘had goodies for him,’ and he said, ‘hold up,’ and walked into a room. He came back and apologized for being gone so long. He started typing furiously and said he had an Executive Suite available for us at no extra charge. He was so polite and funny, making small talk. We slipped him an additional $20 after the transaction was complete because he was such a great guy and so grateful for the tip.”
